INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADDING LIONS DISTRICT 24-D CLUB BOUNDARIES TO STREET ATLAS USA 2008/2009 (It is recommended that you print this file in order to more easily follow the installation steps and begin using the program.) FIRST, install Street Atlas USA on your computer. NOTE! You must accept the default location for DeLorme DOCUMENTS (not the program files) when installing Street Atlas, or this Lions Club boundaries installation will not work. (The default location is C:\DeLorme Docs). If you have already installed Street Atlas and changed that location, you will need to re-install it and accept the default location. ALSO, you need to enable "Advanced File Management." If Street Atlas is already installed, you may enable "Advanced File Management" now, as follows: 1. Open Street Atlas USA. 2. Click on the "Help" icon [?] in the top toolbar. 3. In the Help Menu, click on "Change File Management". 4. In the "Change File Management" dialog box, click on "Advanced", then "OK". 5. Close Street Atlas USA. SECOND, install the Club Boundary files: 1. IF YOU RECEIVED THE BOUNDARY FILES ON A CD: Insert the disk in the CD drive and log onto that drive. -- or -- IF YOU RECEIVED THE FILES BY E-MAIL: Log onto the folder in which you have saved and unzipped the files. 2. Right-click on the "24-D INSTALL" icon and then select "Open". (This copies the files to the appropriate directories in Street Atlas.) 3. Exit the folder or CD drive. THIRD, Configure Street Atlas to utilize the new files: 1. Open Street Atlas USA. 2. Click on the "Map Files" tab in the row of tabs just below the map. 3. Click on the middle button of the 3 small buttons just below the "File" button. (It says "Open a Map File" when you move the cursor over it). 4. In the pop-up "Open File" window, highlight the filename "LionsClubs24-D" by clicking on it, then click on the "Open" button. (The pop-up window closes and the map displays the District 24-D Lions Club Boundaries.) 5. THE INSTALLATION IS NOW COMPLETE. USING THE PROGRAM Street Atlas USA has detailed instructions for using its many fine features. Explore the Tutorials. (Click on the "Help" button [?], then on "Help Topics," then on "Search"; type TUTORIAL and click "List topics".) A printable manual titled "USER GUIDE" also is accessible in the Help menu. Here are a few pointers: 1. You can pan or scroll the map by clicking on the YELLOW arrows in the toolbar at the top right corner of the screen, or by moving the cursor near a map edge (until it changes to a hand symbol) and dragging the map. You also can re-center the map by moving the cursor to a desired center point and clicking the left mouse button. 2. You can zoom the map in and out by clicking on the RED arrows at the top right corner. Other ways to zoom will be shown as you use the program. 3. The Lions Club area boundaries are highlighted in yellow on the map. Each area is labeled with the club's name (visible at zoom level 8 or higher). 5. To determine which Lions Club serves a given street address: a. Click on the "Find" tab. If you then click on "QuickSearch," you may type the target address in a single box (house number, street, city, state, country.) If you click on "Advanced," you can search for a street address, street intersection, or other options. The Advanced search also has separate boxes for the parts of a street address, which can save you some typing, because the state, country, and often the city, are probably the same as in your last search. NOTE: Street Atlas cannot locate a Post Office Box address. If a P.O. box is the only address available, try to get the names of two roads or streets that intersect nearby, and search for the intersection. b. Click on "search", and if the address is a valid one, the map will zoom in and place a tag at its precise location. c. You may need to zoom out several levels in order to find the name of the responsible Lions Club. d. To find another address, click "New Search" and proceed as above. d. The resulting map tags will be deleted when you close Street Atlas. There are several ways to mark locations permanently, if you so desire, with MapNotes, symbols, text, etc. For information about these, see Help [?] or the User Guide. 6. When you click on the "Draw" tab, either a File Table or a Drawing Tool bar will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. To turn off the File Table, click on the "Done" button to the right of the table. To switch back to the File Table from the Drawing Tools, click on the "File" button next to the toolbar. You may vary the height of this display area by dragging its top border, or by clicking one of the two arrows at its top. The file Table lists seven Draw Files named "Zone A" thru "Zone G". Each file contains the club boundaries within the corresponding zone of Lions District 24-D. The File Table is used to perform several functions: a. To display or hide the club boundaries in any one or more of the zones (by checking or unchecking the check boxes on the far left); b: To lock or unlock the files (by checking or unchecking the "Lock" check boxes). When locked, a file cannot be modified. When it is unlocked (and designated as "Active"), a file can be modified with the various drawing tools; c: To designate which file is "Active" (by clicking on the "Active" bullseye for that file). Even if a file is unlocked, it cannot be modified unless it is "Active." The Drawing Tool display (remember to click on "Done" to leave the File display) is used when you want to create, move, or modify drawn objects on the map, e.g., waypoints, symbols, MapNotes, or the Lions Club boundaries and/or their labels. To save any changes you have made, go back to the File Table and click on the "Save" button.
